Dream on Joseph, God Has a Dream for You

Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go.
Proverbs 3:6 (MSG)

Stripes have long been popular. Pinstripes, wide stripes, wavy stripes. Stripes running vertically on a garment make the person appear taller and thinner. Stripes placed horizontally? Not so slimming. Twelve-inch blocks of stripes set alternately in a quilt would thrill a child.

Stripes are everywhere in nature. Think about the rainbow—points of refracted light thrown across the sky. I think God was having fun one day and said, “Put this color next to that one, then this one over here.” He rolled the rainbow out like a bolt of fabric and said, “Done.” It looked so good He put stripes everywhere . . . on zebras, tigers, raccoon tails, watermelons, glaciers . . . even on skunks.

Man looked at all those natural stripes and said, “Wow, let’s weave some stripes.” So Joseph ended up with a striped coat of many colors. He must have felt pretty special . . . like royalty.

Dream on, Joseph. He held on to that dream from poverty to prison. When Joseph told his older brothers about his dream, they ridiculed him and finally sold him into slavery. From pit to pinnacle, Joseph held on to his dream. God gave it to him. Maybe he couldn’t see how things could ever work out through his circumstances, but he knew God well enough to trust Him with his life. God could make a way, and He did.

God still gives dreams today. He gives hope where it seems hopeless, makes a way in the desert, and parts the sea of our circumstances. He gave a dream to Joseph and to so many others throughout the ages, and He can do it today.

God dreams big for you.
