Master Planner

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11

Although God knows the specific plans that He has for our lives, we do not. However, we wish God’s plans could be presented to us in a detailed instruction manual so that each day, we could follow it in simple, mapped-out steps.

In our minds, we try to predict the ungovernable future, but the uncertainty we find causes us to be filled with anxiety and tension. As we walk through life, we question whether or not we are on the right path, and we silently wonder if God really does have plans that will give [us] hope and a future.

This is when we must remember that no matter how we view the circumstances of life, God’s ways are vastly higher than ours, and His plans are greater and much more comprehensive than we can imagine.

When Job and his friends tried to figure out why Job had to go through such extreme hardship, God rebuked them for trying to use their own wisdom to assess the situation. He demanded, Who is this that questions My wisdom with such ignorant words? (Job 38:2 NLT). The one who determined the measurements of the earth and set the limits of the sea is completely worthy of measuring out our steps too.

Although we may desire a mapped-out plan with logic as our guide, God desires for our faith in Him to be our guide. Within His wisdom lie the keys to a future that is filled with hope and goodness, a future that goes beyond our human mindset and into the mystery of God’s amazing intellect.

We can find peace and assurance knowing that God Himself made specific, complex plans for us, and He can effortlessly stitch them into our lives to work out His wonderful plan.

Jill Holler grew up on a farm in western Illinois, enjoying a life of running free through the pastures during the day and gazing at the countless shimmering stars at night. All around her, she could see the work of God’s creative hand, and she knew He was real. Yet it wasn’t until years later that she would discover the abundant life of faith that comes from taking hold of the living power that resides in God and His word. After struggling to find purpose and meaning for much of her young adult life, she found that it resides simply–yet powerfully–in Jesus Christ, her God and Savior.
